Realme Buds Q Review: Best Earphones Under 2000

Today we’re going to review the Realme Buds Q earbuds. And these are pretty good, except for some odd choice. I don’t understand why they went with it. But as per sound quality and battery backup, this is amongst the best earphones under 2000 rs in India. Hey guys, I am Shamik, and let’s get started.

Realme Buds Q Review: Is it the Best Earphones Under 2000?

Box Contains:

In the box, you get earbuds, a case, and instructions on how to turn them on for the first time. Then you get a micro USB cable, some extra ear-tips of different sizes, and finally Realme Buds Q manual with warranty card.

Realme Buds Q: Video Overview

Realme Buds Q Design:

Realme says that Jose Levi has designed these earphones from France, who gave it this pebble-like shape. And you can see how incredibly difficult. It must have been to come up with this complex masterpiece in design. It does feel pretty nice in hands, though, even if the plastics used here. Still feel kind of cheap and good.

It uses a Micro USB port. Opening the magnetic lid will take you to the earbuds, which are well designed and look better than other budget earbuds. They do have a shape that feels like it made to insert in your ears. And the subtle yellow accents on the ear-tips are also an excellent addition.

The side surface of the Realme Bud Q is touch-sensitive plastic. You can touch it to control the playback of your music. So you can play/pause with a double-tap, change tracks with a triple tap. And you can change these assignments with the Realme Link app. So you can add the functionality for Voice assistant also.

You can also hold both earbuds to enable game mode, which we will talk about later. But I have to say that this touch functionality is a pretty hit or miss with these earbuds. And about 25% to 50% time it just doesn’t work. I am not sure what the reason for this. As I did try to touch the touch area precisely, but it still didn’t register it very well.

So I would’ve just preferred buttons instead of this touch functionality that doesn’t work correctly. Unlike most other earbuds on the market, Realme Buds Q doesn’t have LEDs on the earbuds. So you won’t know if they are turned on or not, or if they have finished charging in the case or not. Also, read: Realme Buds Air Vs Mi True Wireless Earphones 2: Which One to Buy?

The case also doesn’t indicate what the battery level is. I am not sure if it blinks red to note that the battery is low. I kept charging it because one of the earbuds wasn’t working, and I thought it wasn’t charging. But it was fully charged. Then I had to touch and hold it for 5 seconds like you have to do for the first time, and then it was fixed.

So it isn’t a big issue, but this is the kind of problem you have when you don’t see any LEDs blinking on either the case or the earbud. And for a company boasting about how good their design is, this is a massive oversight.

Battery Quality of Realme Buds Q:

The battery life is right on Realme Buds Q which makes it one of the best Bluetooth earbuds in India. The earbuds offer a 4 hour playback time, which was accurate in my test. The case provides up to 20 hours of battery backup. But I wasn’t able to verify this as I charged it multiple times as I thought it not charged.

But the good news is that the frustrations mostly end there, as the comfort on these is pretty good. They do fit well in my ears. And at first, I thought they were going to fall out of my ears because of how they provide. But that didn’t happen, and I was able to wear these for hours comfortably. I still had to go with the bigger ear-tips for the proper sound, which weren’t as comfortable. But I think most people should find the medium tips to be the best for them.

By the way, make sure that you subscribe to our website, because I also got these new Oppo TWS earphones, and I will compare these Realme Buds Q and Oppo TWS soon.

Features:

Realme buds Q also has an IPX4 water resistance rating. It means they can protect from splashes of water and shower. But you can’t immerse them in water. There’s a game mode on these. So when you press and hold on both the earbuds, you hear a cheezy sound of a car engine starting, and that is the game mode. You can also check all features form the Realme official website.

It does make it better for watching videos, as the videos get more in sync with the audio. And while it also does somewhat reduce the sound delay while gaming. There’s still a significant delay.

So it’s not going to be as good as wired earphones. But for games like PUBG, I don’t mind the slight delay in gunshots. I don’t like what the microphone sounds like, and it is not bad. But it is not that great either, in my Redmi Earbuds S Review. You can see that the microphone on those sounds a little better, but this isn’t bad either. But I didn’t’ find any problems during calls.

Realme Buds Q Sound Quality

It is finally coming to the sound quality. It is also a complicated matter. The sound of Realme Buds Q is outstanding which makes this one of the best earphones under 2000. The not-so-good news is that you will have to use an equalizer to get that right sound. So I will talk about how they seem without using equalizer first. Then I will explain why using equalizer is necessary.

So the bass on these is good for the price. It boosted, and punchy, but it sounds correct. So it doesn’t seem muddy. The mids on Realme Buds Q earbuds are not bad. But the vocals don’t look great because of how the highs are tuned. The tops on these are what I found to be too accentuated. And that keeps them from achieving the cohesion that would have given them an overall great sound.

The upper mid-range of vocals and some parts of treble also boosted too much. So vocals don’t sound natural. The treble is also not very pleasant to listen for long periods. It just seems quite harsh.

using an equalizer

But thankfully, most of this can be solved easily with an equalizer. You can use these settings to tame the treble down, and then it sounds pretty good. Generally, I use an equalizer to enhance the sound of audio gear. Still, with Realme Buds Q earbuds, I feel it’s kind of necessary.

The Soundstage on these is pretty good, though, which does make the music fun to listen enough. So overall, I do think that for the 2000 Rs. Price point, the Realme Buds Q does offer excellent sound quality. And they could be one of the best earphones under 2000 rs.

Realme Buds Q Could be One of The Best Earphones Under 2000

The design is good, and the battery life is also high. But the lack of proper indication of battery levels, and a lack of controls that work correctly are the drawbacks. But if you are sticky for the best earbuds under 2000 range, you can surely purchase it. I think you won’t be disappointed with these as they deliver on the essentials and don’t sound like cheap earphones. And if you use an equalizer, they seem reasonable. Overall, this is an average Bluetooth earbud under 2000 rupees.

So that was it for this review. I’ll have links to buy these in the below of this article, so you are interested in buying it. Let me know what you think about these in the comments section below. Realme Buds Air Vs Mi True Wireless Earphones 2: Which One to Buy?

Realme Buds Air Vs Mi True Wireless Earphones 2: Which one to buy? Xiaomi recently launched the new MI true wireless earphones 2. Right name, but hey, is it unique? It’s just a renamed version of the MI Air Dodge Pro 2 that we reviewed earlier. So the audio quality wasn’t up to the mark. So how much is different now and currently priced at 4500 INR, bringing it closer to the Realme Buds Air. But overall both of them could be the best Bluetooth earphones under 5000 rupees in India.

You might be looking for one of the best Bluetooth earphones to buy. But the question is, what should you choose, Realme Buds Air or MI True Wireless Earphones 2? Well, this is Shamik, the host of HonestyGuide.com. Here’s I am going to review both of these earphones. For most people, I’ll recommend Realme Buds AIR over Mi True Wireless 2. Realme Buds Air is cheap and best earphones which has more features and looks better.

Let’s get away with the ritual. Yes, the inbox contents. So we have the case, earbuds, and a type C charging cable. It also comes with a MI True Wireless Earphone 2 Manual.

As always, you get pretty much the same content with any other True Wireless Stereo in the market. Now, this device again is similar to the global MI Air Dodge Pro 2 variant. We covered that previously in a review.

Apart from the Chinese text is pretty evident that both of them are the same devices. Have a look at the model number as well. So I wouldn’t be into that (Renamed for the Indian market).

Design for These Best Bluetooth Earphones:

Let’s start with the design. The Xiaomi has a more bulky edgy cylindrical design. In comparison, the Realme buds air has smooth edges kind of like apple AirPods. I’m kidding, exactly apple iPods. I prefer the Realme because it’s much easier to put it in the jeans pocket and feels lighter. Sometimes the case design is equally important as the case is always in your pocket.

Again when you take out the earpiece, the Xiaomi ones are quite big with a thick stem. It’s going to stand out when you wear this in public. Well, the Realme Buds Air has a more low-key look and can easily disguise as Apple iPod. It is something you may or may not like depending on your perception. Overall the looks and design are pretty subjective. However, I prefer the Realme Buds Air Bluetooth headset with mic due to the sleek case and smaller earbuds.

Realme Buds Air Vs Mi True Wireless Earphones 2: Sound Quality

When it comes to sound, here’s the thing. Audio quality is not a strong point for any of these. So I would say both of the earphones offer decent sound at best. One can argue that Xiaomi has more significant 14.2 mm dynamic drivers than the smaller 12 mm drivers in Realme Buds Air. But on testing, we didn’t find any significant difference. Good base, bad highs, good vocals make it one of the best earphones with mic.

Similarly, Xiaomi Mi True Wireless Earphones 2 fronted is support for the LHDC audio codec, which is better than AAC in Realme Buds Air. And hang on, if LHDC sounds new to you! Let me explain. For Bluetooth music listening, the audio needs to be compressed on your phone and sent to your earphone. On the headsets, it is then again decompressing back. And that’s what you hear.

LHDC sounds

So that’s coding-decoding, and now you get the word codec. Most devices use SBC, which sends the least amount of data to your earphones. Here’s a graph comparing the amount of data SBC, AAC, LSDC sent from your phone to the audio device.

On a general thumb rule, LSDC is better than AAC, which is better than SBC. But here’s the fun part LSDC comes built-in in android 10. But we found it missing on most of the android ten devices. We found it only on Redmi note 8 Pro, note 7 Pro, note 5 Pro, etc. Basically inside the Xiaomi devices. So in lack of LSDC, the Mi True Wireless Earphones 2 falls back to AAC, which is what Realme Buds Air uses.

So apex HD or LSDC would have been a better choice by Xiaomi. To sum it up, the Mi True Wireless Earphones 2 has a better audio codec. But it’s not present on most devices. So the score is tied here. Realme Buds Air has gaming mode, which makes it one of the best earphones for PUBG mobile. Also, Realme Buds Air has Google fast pair. In my opinion, it’s a draw as both have similar sound quality.

Bluetooth and Connectivity

Now Bluetooth and connectivity are where things get interesting. Well, both Realme Buds Air and Mi True Wireless Earphones 2 have Bluetooth 5.0. It is excellent, in terms of the latest specs. However, the Realme ones have Google fast pair. So if you bring a fresh Real me Buds besides an android device, it will automatically give you this kind of pop-up.

And you would be able to connect the Realme Buds Air instantly. It works on any android device above android 6. On the other hand, Mi True Wireless Earphones 2 has a more proprietary approach like Apple. If you bring new equipment besides a Xiaomi device, it will give you that AirPods like a pop-up.

Upon pairing, you get this battery life details, and it works only on Xiaomi devices with Android 10. Google fast pay is not a big deal, as you would experience it only for the first time. Another thing for caution, the Mi True Wireless Earphones 2, never paired back automatically to Macbook Pro. At the same time, things were okay with windows and android devices.

Battery LIfe

Both the Realme Buds Air and Mi True Wireless Earphones 2 have similar battery life. Realme Buds Air comes with Four hours on the buds and 17 hours on the case and 14 hours with the Mi True Wireless Earphones 2. Both of them have a type-C charging port. And both of them can fast charge like you could go zero to 100 on the case in about 45 minutes to an hour.

On the plus side, the Realme Buds Air has wireless charging, which might not be a big deal for most of you. But that’s an excellent option to have. You know when you forget your charging cable, and the only option is wireless charging. It happens with me sometimes.

In summary, the Realme Buds Air has a slightly better battery life and even wireless charging. And it makes one of the best Bluetooth earphones between these two.

Call Quality:

Now coming to call quality, both offer decent call quality. Partly because the mic is on the stem, and it’s closer to your mouth. Also, both the birds offer environmental noise cancellation as well. So you would sound somewhat like this in usual home surroundings.

To summarize, if you take a lot of calls, both the Realme Buds air and Mi True Wireless Earphones 2 are high.

Price

This time, Realme is a bit cheaper. The new Mi True Wireless Earphones 2 currently market price is Rs.4,499 and while the Realme buds AIR price is only Rs.3,999. While the price difference isn’t huge, it’s worth pointing out. You can buy any of these two if you are looking for amongst the best Bluetooth earphones under 5000.

Extra Features:

Now before we jump to the unique features, let’s quickly see what’s similar. Both support Bluetooth 5.0 and in-ear detection. Now, apart from these standard features, Realme Buds Air has two more extra features. The Realme link app can control the Realme Buds Air. You can change the double-tap, triple tap, and long-press gestures.

Sadly there’s no equalizer in the app, but I guess Realme can update that later. Come on, whereas the Mi True Wireless Earphones 2 doesn’t have an official app in India. In terms of latency, both are good when it comes to YouTube or Netflix. But the Realme Buds Air has this low latency gaming mode which makes one of the best earphones for PUBG mobile and its quite amazing. Sadly it’s not fun playing PUBG on Mi True Wireless Earphones 2.

To conclude this, if you have a Xiaomi phone or a Realme phone, the choices are clear. But if you’re confused, we recommend the Realme Buds Air over Xiaomi Mi True Wireless Earphones. It has a better design, comfort gaming mode, and yeah, wireless charging. Not to forget, It’s cheaper as well.
